Pakistan needs uninterrupted internet: Jamaat-e-Islami chief

Addressing the Youth Empowerment Seminar on Tuesday, he emphasized that Pakistani people need uninterrupted internet. He called the government’s tactics intolerable and added that Jamaat-e-Islami will resist these measures.

Naeemur Rehman criticized the behavior of the government saying that instead of promoting development in the information technology sector, it has resorted to firewalls to control access to the Internet. He argued that this is not only depriving the youth of employment opportunities but also increasing frustration and despair.

In a seminar organized by Al-Khidmat Foundation regarding International Volunteer Day, Rehman strongly refuted the government’s claims about improving the national economy.

He termed these claims as lies and said that the ground reality is completely different, with half of the population living below the poverty line.

He added that millions of children are unable to go to school due to the failure of the state to provide affordable, quality education, poverty. Rahman highlighted the disparity between the education system, one for the rich and one for the poor, saying that the system was deepening the divide between the two classes.

He accused the ruling elite of monopolizing state resources and depriving the people of their basic needs. He said that billionaires who have nothing to do with the struggle of ordinary citizens and have no interest in solving these problems are sitting in Parliament.

Rahman also criticized the country’s usury-based capitalist economy, calling it incompatible with Islamic principles. He reiterated Jamaat-e-Islami’s commitment to establish an Islamic system in Pakistan, which would provide hope and opportunities to the youth.

He called for the election of real representatives of the people as opposed to the current parliamentarians, who he said do not represent the common citizen.

For this change, Rehman urged the people of Pakistan to join the Jamaat-e-Islami movement, pledging that the Jamaat would lead the struggle for a true Islamic welfare state.
