LAHORE: A mob of around 200 women belonging to a certain community attacked the residence of Azad Mehdi, author of the novel Peru, in Shahdara area on Tuesday. The novelist faced harassment and threats from women after she objected to the allegedly obscene content in his book.

Mehdi revealed to The News that women were upset by the novel’s language, which they considered offensive, especially against women. “I deeply regret the pain caused by my work and I am ready to apologize publicly.
