This letter refers to Amina Babar’s article ‘Why Pakistan Drowned’ (31 December 2024). I respectfully agree with some of the views expressed by the author regarding the views of Dr. Ishrat Hussain. I must say that I find Dr Hussain’s views too simplistic. It is wrong to attribute the Pakistani civil bureaucracy as the root cause of the problems we have faced over the years.
The basic fact is that multiple and highly complex aspects need to be taken into account when trying to rationalize the reasons for Pakistan’s various failures and successes.
