NFL results and Week 17 recap: Sam Darnold stars for Vikings, Saquon Barkley records, Jayden Daniels makes playoffs

The NFC East has a new winner for a record 20th straight year after Saquon Barkley hammered the Cowboys 41-7 behind 167 rushing yards.

The 27-year-old is the ninth player ever to break the 2,000-yard mark in a season. He has Eric Dickerson’s coveted record of 2,105, set in 1984, but may not get a chance to break it.

Since the Eagles have nothing to play for next week, head coach Nick Siriani will rest his star players for the playoffs under normal circumstances.

“I always have to do what’s right for the football team so that we can reach our goals that we need to do,” Siriani said. “I have a lot to think about.”

Barkley will need 101 yards next week to capture one of the NFL’s most rushing records, even though he’s playing more games than Dickerson, and that game only comes against the New York Giants — who gave him the season. Controversially left in the summer.
