Parachinar: Two separate Jirgas continued talks to restore peace in Karam on Sunday as the central Peshawar Parachinar highway and other roads remained blocked despite a ceasefire in the district.
Sources said the Jirga led by the provincial government adjourned the meeting to Monday as some elders failed to attend the function. Both sides have agreed to a ceasefire and will discuss measures to implement the decisions, officials said.
Sources say that the Pakhtun Qaumi Jirga consisting of representatives of various tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan was engaged in discussions with elders in Karam for the last six days.
Talking to reporters, Jirga members including Mufti Kifayatullah, Malik Nasir Kokikhel Shakoor Khan and Hamid Sherani said that the first round of negotiations was successfully completed. He said that he will continue the second round of negotiations today.
The continuous road closures following incidents of firing on passenger convoys and subsequent clashes have created a lot of problems for the people.
Essential supplies such as food, fuel and medicine have run out, causing severe hardship for residents.
