Karachi: The 35th National Games, which was held in February this year in Karachi, will now be held in May. The News have learned.
Informed sources said that the delay in the release of funds by the government has led to the delay in the National Games. The Sindh Olympic Association (SOA) is organizing the National Games. Its Secretary General Ahmed Ali Rajput, when contacted, confirmed that the National Games will not be held in February.
The Secretary General of SOA said that the decision in this regard was taken in the Executive Council meeting of POA held in Lahore on December 30. Executive Committee of POA.
He further said that the National Games Organizing Committee will start preparations this month. He said that the SOA wants all preparations for the National Games to be completed before Ramadan (in March).
Sources say that there will be two or three important meetings regarding the National Games in January. Sources said that organizing the National Games with more than 7000 athletes from different fields at different places will be a difficult task.
Sindh Sports Minister Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Khan Mehr has said that National Games will be organized in Karachi in a proper manner. Sources confirmed that issues related to sanction of funds for the National Games have been resolved.
