Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah has directed the Secretary of the Energy Department to formally inform the federal government about the increasing problem of gas load shedding and low pressure in the province.
In a statement issued on Friday, Shah highlighted that Sindh, the country’s largest producer of natural gas, is unjustly deprived of its resources. He said that with the onset of winter, gas load-shedding had started immediately due to which children missed going to school without breakfast and were having negative effects on their education.
Shah called for the implementation of Article 158 to ensure fair distribution of gas, stressing that the province with the most gas should have the primary right to use it. He called for the representation of Sindh in the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority to remove the inequality caused by the province’s lack of representation. He appealed to the President and the Prime Minister to solve the gas shortage in Sindh immediately.
