NASA Administrator Pays Tribute to President Carter – NASA

The following is NASA Administrator Bill Nelson’s statement on the death of President Jimmy Carter on Sunday:

“President Carter was the pinnacle of a public servant, who dedicated his life to making our world a better place. He showed us that everyone has the power to make a difference. Providing for those in need, protecting the environment, And by supporting civil and human rights, President Carter was a good man who always tried to do what was right. He embodied the best of humanity and his life and legacy are an example to America and the world.

“NASA’s Voyager 1, the most distant human-made object from Earth, carries a message from President Carter that captures its essential goodness and grace:

“‘If any such civilization intercepts Voyager and can understand these recorded materials, our message is this: This is a gift from a distant world, our voices, our science, our images, our music, our Thoughts and feelings are a symbol of our time, so that we can live in you, hopefully one day, by solving the problems we face, a community of galactic civilizations Will join in. This record is a vast and terrifying universe I represent our hope and our determination and our good will.’

“President Carter understood an important truth: when we look at the stars, we find common ground. His words will live forever in the heavens, and his legacy will liven up our country and our land forever. What’s better. The NASA family and I are keeping the Carter family close in our thoughts. Rest in peace.
