ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Human Rights has expressed serious concern over the growing trend of child begging, child abuse and drug addiction in private and public educational institutions. The committee directed the Ministry of Human Rights and the National Commission for Child Rights (NCRC) to take effective measures to prevent such social evils.
The Committee stressed the need for effective legislation and enforcement of existing laws to protect the rights of children. He also directed the HRD Ministry to suggest ways to strengthen the NCRC to effectively implement child protection.
The meeting of the Standing Committee was held on Thursday at the Parliament House under the chairmanship of Sahibzada Muhammad Hamid Raza. The committee directed the Ministry of Human Rights to coordinate with the Ministry of Education to create awareness about drugs, child abuse and the use of social media platforms to prevent the youth from falling prey to these social problems.
