Music icon Sam Moore has died aged 89 after complications from surgery.
The musician, who is known to have inspired the likes of the late legend Michael Jackson and Bruce Springsteen, died tragically on Friday, January 10, following surgery in Coral Gables, Fla.
His death was confirmed by his beloved wife and longtime manager Joyce Moore in a statement to The New York Times.
Moore rose to fame in the late 1950s when he crossed paths with his future partner Dave Prater, prompting them to perform together at Miami’s King of Hearts Club in 1961.
By 1964, the duo was offered a generous contract by Atlantic Records as a result of their back-to-back hit performances.
Throughout their time together in the 1960s, the duo released R&B hits, including Wait, I’m coming, thank you. And The soul of man.
Speaking about their duet performance, Moore said in a 1998 book Sam and Dave: An Oral History“It was a pairing. But it wasn’t a partnership.
On the professional front, he was successful in several charts reaching number 2 in 1967 with his breakthrough performance.
