Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presided over the convocation ceremony of the Class of 2024 as the Patron of IBA Karachi on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering, he said that true leadership transcends personal success. Shah congratulated the graduating class and appreciated their hard work, resilience and dedication.
“Today, we celebrate your academic achievements and perseverance that got you this far and this moment is a testament to your ability and the support of your family,” he said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted a historic milestone that IBA Karachi will achieve next year, which will complete 70 years of education, leadership and innovation. “Seventy years of nurturing talent and creating leaders is a legacy that few institutions can claim,” he said, adding that the milestone was a tribute to the IBA’s faculty, management and students. Reflects dedication and vision.
Additionally, IBA Karachi’s commitment to academic excellence was the focal point of the event. With 67 percent of its faculty holding PhD degrees, the institute fosters a rigorous academic environment and produces graduates who are prepared to meet the challenges of an evolving global landscape.
He emphasized on the important role of institutions like IBA Karachi in shaping the future of the nation. “As a graduate, you should embrace the advancements in artificial intelligence, data science, and digital transformation,” he said, adding that Pakistan’s dynamic youth and its growing tech ecosystem have global potential. There is immense potential to play a meaningful role on the surface.
IBA Karachi’s influential alumni network of over 18,000 people was also recognized as a key asset. Alumni have made remarkable contributions in various fields and served as role models for the graduating class.
In his closing remarks, CM Shah encouraged the graduates to lead with compassion, integrity and social responsibility. “True leadership transcends personal achievement. The knowledge and skills you acquire here must be used to create positive change and uphold the highest standards of integrity,” he said.
The convocation marked a proud moment for the graduates and their families as they prepared to embark on a new journey. The event also launched IBA Karachi’s upcoming 70th anniversary celebrations, reflecting its rich legacy and continuing impact on education and leadership in Pakistan.
Executive Director IBA Dr. Akbar Zaidi thanked the Chief Minister for his valuable time to attend the function. Dressed in convocation attire, the Chief Minister presented the medals and degrees to the position holders.
He praised the graduating students for achieving this wonderful milestone which speaks volumes for their dedication and perseverance. “Today is a very special day as we celebrate the largest graduating class in IBA history,” said Dr. Zaidi. “This day also marks the beginning of an important year as we look forward to celebrating IBA’s 70th anniversary which is a testament to our legacy of excellence and transformation,” he added.
At the convocation held at the main campus, 1,353 graduates were awarded degrees in various fields. The graduate batch included 990 graduates from six undergraduate programs, 362 graduates from 11 postgraduate programs, and one PhD graduate.
The convocation ceremony was attended by position holders in various degree programmes, who were awarded medals, shields and merit certificates. Rowing champion, Syeda Munahal Hussain (Class of 2024) was honored with the ‘Excellence in Sports’ award.
