PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has confirmed 8 new cases of Chikungunya in the provincial capital, after which the total number of reported cases in the province has risen to 14.
After six cases were initially reported and the number increased rapidly, health officials stepped up efforts to trace contacts and control the spread of the mosquito-borne virus. The recent increase was detected through intensive outreach by the Department of Health.
Officials urged the public to take precautions, including eliminating mosquito breeding sites and using insecticides, to prevent further transmission.
Chikungunya, a viral disease spread by infected mosquitoes, causes symptoms such as fever, severe joint pain and itching. Although not usually fatal, it poses significant health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations. Health officials stressed the importance of prompt medical attention for suspected cases and advised those affected to strictly follow precautionary instructions.
