Pakistan’s tallest fast bowler Mohammad Irfan announced his retirement from international cricket on Saturday, becoming the third consecutive Pakistani player to retire.
42-year-old Irfan shared the news on social media platform ‘X’ while thanking his teammates, coaches and fans. He wrote that I have decided to retire from international cricket. “Thank you for the love, happiness and unforgettable memories. Long live Pakistan.”
Known for his impressive height and bounce, Irfan represented Pakistan in four Tests, 60 ODIs and 22 T20Is, taking 109 wickets in all formats. Although his last international appearance was five years ago, he recently took part in domestic cricket, featuring in the President’s Cup for Khan Research Laboratories.
Irfan’s retirement follows the announcements of fast bowler Mohammad Amir and all-rounder Imad Wasim. Aamir, who has represented Pakistan in all three formats, thanked his fans and the PCB and said, “It is an honor to play for Pakistan. It is the right time for the next generation to take up the baton.
Imad Wasim, the first in this wave to announce his retirement, said goodbye earlier this week, reflecting on his journey with pride.
The series of retirements marks a significant change for Pakistan cricket, raising questions about the next generation of the team and future strategies.
