A man is in custody on suspicion of murder following the deaths of two women in a suspected Christmas Day stabbing, police have said.
A 49-year-old man from Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, has also been detained on suspicion of attempted murder after a man in his late 20s and a teenage boy were taken to hospital with serious injuries. .
Thames Valley Police said they were both in a stable condition after the incident in Santa Cruz Avenue, Newton Lease, Bletchley. An injured dog, which was believed to be dead, survived, the force said.
Sophie Pritchard, a local resident, told BBC Look East: “It’s just horrible what happened, tragic… nothing like this should happen anywhere.”
Officers were called to the scene at around 18:30 GMT on Wednesday where two women, aged 38 and 24, had died.
There was a large cordon on Thursday and a forensic team could be seen walking up the stairs of the block of flats.
Numbered yellow evidence signs and first aid kits were visible on the road and pavement outside the address and on the boot of a car parked at the adjacent Trinidad Grove.
The flowers have since been left in police custody.
Ed Hume, a Milton Keynes city councillor, said: “The community here in Newton Lease is a strong community, it’s a close-knit community that looks out for each other and I know it’s shocking and sad.”
Det Ch Insp Stuart Brangwin offered his “deepest condolences to the families of the women who have tragically lost their lives in this tragic incident”.
He added: “We have opened a double homicide investigation which may be of wider public concern, however we have made one arrest and are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident and the parties Know each other.
“Members of the public will see a large police presence in the area as we carry out our investigations.
