LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved outsourcing plan for solid waste management services in all tehsils of Punjab and launched Suthra Punjab app to facilitate public participation in sanitation initiatives.
Presiding over a meeting on “Zero Waste Mission” under the Suthra Punjab programme, the Chief Minister announced that the door-to-door garbage collection drive across the province would begin from December 3. Services have been completed in 103 tehsils, the process is fast-tracked in another 33 tehsils.
Key updates from the meeting include vehicle tracking: GPS trackers will be installed on waste collection vehicles to ensure proper monitoring. Monitoring Committees: Six member committees headed by Assistant Commissioners will monitor the activities at Tehsil, District and Provincial level. Employment opportunities: More than 100,000 jobs will be created through outsourcing, with the move creating an additional 87,000 roles. Distribution of equipment: More than 21,000 cleaning machines and 83,000 cleaning tools will be deployed.
Door-to-door waste collection in Lahore alone will cover 1.5 lakh households while sanitation will be ensured in 500 markets and 400 villages. Additionally, 10 loader rickshaws will be distributed in each union council.
“Zero waste revolution will be launched,” the chief minister stressed on uniform standards of cleanliness across Punjab. Strict monitoring will ensure accountability and negligence will not be tolerated. He also appreciated the cleanliness measures in Murree.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz celebrated Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) crossing 100,000 points to achieve a historic milestone, terming it as proof of Pakistan’s economic potential. Speaking to the media, he remarked, “PSX is now among the best performing equity markets in the world. Alhamdulillah, this historic achievement reflects the growing confidence of investors in Pakistan’s economy.”
He credited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his economic team for this, saying, “This milestone is a result of effective, business-friendly policies made during the PMLN era.”
The Chief Minister said that such records are achieved not by political slogans but by giving concrete results and increasing the confidence of investors.
Maryam Nawaz reiterated that Pakistan is achieving stability and growth under the leadership of PMLN President Nawaz Sharif, further strengthening its appeal to international investors.
Apart from this, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz congratulated the Pakistan cricket team on their victory in the ODI series against Zimbabwe. He praised the team’s performance, highlighting the contribution of Ghulam Kamran and other players in particular, saying, “They played with passion and won the hearts of the spectators.
