beyond Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man release, Marvel TV head Brad Vanderbaum said the new show would not fulfill MCU canon.
“It started as, ‘Okay, it’s Spider-Man’s new year, he’s going to be a new guy, can we completely avoid that in the MCU?’ And very early in the development process, we realized how it closed us down,” he said, adding that the decision was made to avoid banning the series.
“We couldn’t really use his rogues gallery, we couldn’t really use his originality. It wasn’t fun, honestly. We had to put a lot of limitations on him to lock our story into canon. ” Tophead explained.
Brad concluded that these limitations were hindering the creative work of the show, so he decided to leave it.
“Every single project I’ve worked on, they’ve all had their own lives….You have to let them live their own lives and go where they want to go.”
