ISLAMABAD: Majority of Pakistanis are aware of the causes of smog and they attribute vehicle fumes and industrial pollution as its main causes. This was revealed in a survey conducted by Ipsos Pakistan, in which 1000 people from across the country participated.
The survey was conducted between November 18 and November 22, 2024.
When asked what is the main cause of smog, 70 percent of Pakistanis said vehicles emit smoke while 63 percent cited industrial pollution as the main cause of smog.
More than 37 percent cited garbage burning, 31 percent brick kilns, 30 percent crop burning and 11 percent construction work as the major cause of smog spread.
Ipsos Pakistan also asked the public what they thought was the reason for the failure to control smog.
In response, 44 percent of people surveyed cited public non-cooperation as the main reason for the failure to eradicate smog.
Over 37 percent cited lack of enforcement of laws, 16 percent cited lack of air quality regulations, 8 percent cited lack of funding, while 8 percent cited limited capacity of institutions to control smog. A major reason.
