Luke Evans opens up about his ‘terrible anxiety’ about not looking ‘good enough’ shirtless

In a recent discussion on how to Failed with Elizabeth Day podcast The 45-year-old actor spoke candidly about aging and body image concerns.

“I still go to the gym sometimes and just feel so anxious,” Evans began. “I look at myself in the mirror and just go, ‘You don’t look good enough,’ or ‘You’re letting it go.’ I look at my face… The scary part of my industry is that you are constantly reminded of the decades of movies you did when you didn’t have a wrinkle or a gray stubble on your face. Whereas all my stubble is gray now.”

It is worth noting that Evans is known for films like his own. Fast and Furious, The Hobbit Trilogy, and Beauty and the Beast.

“I’ve had to learn to be kind to myself, but I have terrible anxiety about feeling good enough physically,” she further explained.

“His part is not entirely bad. [because] It gives you a little something to fight for, but it can be overwhelming. I just recently went to the beach, and I didn’t want to take my t-shirt off. I don’t want to live in this place. I know I shouldn’t feel this way, but you know we are sensitive creatures, we are very fragile. As hard as I can see, I’m pretty fragile,” Evans added.

Acknowledging his duty to maintain his appearance as an actor, Evans noted that he should not have cared about his appearance if he were not an actor.

“I wouldn’t mind that much, but it’s part of my job. I get cast in certain roles that require a certain amount of physical strength and aesthetics.
