ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Owais Ahmad Khan Laghari has asked the Provincial Chief Ministers, Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Federal Ministers to implement the Energy Conservation Building Code 2023 (ECBC-2023) across the country. Apply in Building Regulations.

The appeal aims to increase energy efficiency, curb waste and reduce utility costs for both the government and consumers.

In a letter to key officials, Leghari highlighted the role of the code in addressing energy shortages in buildings under his management, which lead to higher electricity bills and costly maintenance of idle power plants during the off-peak season. is required.

Similarly, to handle the peak load of 60 to 80 hours in summer, the power sector has to maintain many power plants which remain idle for the rest of the year due to low demand resulting in capacity and other related The payments form part of the overall electricity tariff. . Additionally, energy-efficient buildings contribute to natural gas conservation by reducing heating needs in winter.

As the federal minister has identified peak load and its short duration as a major reason for maintaining many power plants in the system, the implementation of the Energy Conservation Building Code 2023 will help to handle peak demand. It will also help, which will help the power sector. Reduce operational costs and energy consumption.

The minister proposed a two-pronged approach for sustainable development of the power sector, revising existing building codes to integrate ECBC-2023 and incorporating the code into public sector infrastructure development under annual development programmes. What did

He expressed the belief that adoption across the country would promote sustainable development and economic stability.

ECBC-2023, which has been approved by the Federal Cabinet and the National Economic Council (NEC), is now accessible to the public on the website of the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA). Leghari urged citizens and stakeholders to utilize these resources to advance energy conservation efforts. It’s a step forward for mutual benefits — increased energy efficiency, lower costs for consumers and a sustainable future, he said.
