Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of US President-elect Donald Trump, has withdrawn her name from consideration for the Senate seat.
She resigned as co-chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) this month, fueling speculation that she could replace outgoing Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, whom Trump has been nominated for Secretary of State.
But in a post on X, he said he had removed himself from consideration “after incredible thought, consideration and encouragement from many people.”
She said she wishes Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis luck in selecting a replacement for the remainder of Rubio’s six-year term, which expires in 2026.
In her post on X on Saturday, Lara Trump said: “I couldn’t be more honored to serve as co-chair of the RNC during one of the most high-stakes elections of my life and I I am truly humbled by the incredible support shown to me by the people of our country, and here in the great state of Florida.”
He said he had a big announcement to share in January, without giving further details.
Lara Trump was elected as co-chair of the RNC in March, cementing her father-in-law’s influence over the party as he campaigns for the presidency.
Along with her husband, Trump’s son Eric, and her older brother Don Jr., she emerged as one of the top campaigners for the Republican nominee in the election.
