President-elect Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump has resigned as co-chair of the Republican National Committee amid speculation that she could fill a possible Senate vacancy in Florida.
In announcing her resignation on social media, she said, “The work I came to do is now complete,” citing the RNC’s successes in fundraising and voter turnout.
He did not specify his next move, but some Trump allies have lobbied for him to replace Senator Marco Rubio, the president’s pick for secretary of state.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Lara Trump said she would be willing to take Rubio’s seat.
“It’s something I would seriously consider,” he said. “If I’m being completely transparent, I don’t know exactly what it’s going to look like.”
After being elected as RNC co-chair in March, Trump was handpicked by his father-in-law — another indication of his iron grip on the Republican Party.
Along with her husband, Eric, and her older brother, Don Jr., Laura Trump emerged as one of the most prominent campaign surrogates for Donald Trump’s White House bid this year.
“It has truly been the honor of my lifetime to serve as GOP co-chair during one of the most consequential elections in American history,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. She also thanked her father-in-law, writing: “We are so proud of you, and I am grateful that you trusted me in this position.”
Several Republicans, including Sen. Rick Scott of Florida, have publicly endorsed him as Rubio’s replacement in the Senate.
Last month, May Musk, the mother of close Trump ally Elon Musk, offered a clear endorsement of Lara Trump for Senate, writing on X: “Should be the next senator for Florida. [Lara Trump]. The Senate is an old man’s club. We desperately need an intelligent, young, mature woman to uncover their secrets.”
Elon Musk responded to the post: “Lara Trump is truly great.”
Florida’s Senate seat is up for re-election in 2028.
