On the direction of Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has implemented new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to promptly address public concerns.
A KWSC spokesperson announced that citizens can now report issues related to open manholes or broken ring slabs by calling the 24/7 helpline number 1334 or contacting the concerned division. Under the new procedure, the executive engineer-in-charge has to provide and install the manhole cover within 12 to 24 hours of receiving the complaint.
The Engineer shall also submit a report on the installation to the Superintendent and Chief Engineer of Sewerage and update the helpline staff on the status of resolution. KWSC warned that failure to follow these SOPs without reasonable cause would result in the executive engineer being held accountable.
The purpose of these SOPs is to effectively prioritize and address public complaints while improving the overall efficiency of the sewerage system, the spokesman added. These initiatives reflect KWSC’s commitment to provide better facilities to the residents of Karachi.
