King credits medical staff for personal service during his cancer treatment.

Dr Douglas Glass, Charles’s GP and King’s therapist, and Professor Richard Leach, his physician, are both acknowledged.

This comes after a year in which both the king and and the Princess of Wales was diagnosed with cancer. The monarch has resumed almost full duties while being treated by his medical team, while Kate is currently making a gradual return to her public engagements.

Dr Glass previously worked for the Royal Family, in later years working as apothecary to Queen Elizabeth II. He was at Balmoral when he died in September 2022.

He has been appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (RVO), having already been awarded the rank of Lieutenant.

RVO awards are issued without the advice of the Prime Minister and recognize services to the Sovereign and the Royal Family, often those who have personally served the monarch.

Commander ranks third in these honors and lieutenant ranks fourth.

Professor Leech, a consultant physician at King Edward VII’s Hospital in central London – where the royal family has been treated for decades – was made lieutenant of the RVO.

He is also a physician at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital Trust, where he works as Clinical Director of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.

Dame Annabelle Whitehead was also recognized for her services as lady-in-waiting to the late Queen over two decades before her death. She was made Dame Commander of the RVO, and will now become Lady of the House, helping the monarch host formal events at Buckingham Palace.

She has been appointed Dame Grand Cross, the highest honor of the RVO.

More than 1,200 people from across the UK have been honored in the New Year’s list.

Actor Stephen Fry, former England manager Gareth Southgate and London Mayor Sadiq Khan have been knighted in the New Year’s honours.

Honors have also gone to a host of Team GB athletes, including runner Kelly Hodgkinson, who was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year for 2024, and mountain biker Tom Pidcock, following the Paris Olympics.

Following the Horizon IT scandal, there are also accolades for campaigners on behalf of wrongfully convicted subpostmasters.
