King Charles is due to hold an important meeting with an important delegation as he officially begins his royal duties for the year.
The king will meet Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani on Tuesday for key talks on “strengthening the strategic partnership” between the two countries.
Al-Sudani will also meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer as he hosts him during his visit.
On Sunday, the Iraqi prime minister shared his flight. AFP that it comes amid “unprecedented and escalating events in the Middle East” and will work for regional and international solidarity for peace.
He added that the visit “will be a very important step in the relationship between Iraq and Britain.”
Meanwhile, Starmer praised the country’s efforts to move into a “new era” with his talks on trade, security and migration.
“Secure borders are a key cornerstone of our plan for change, so I am also very pleased to begin negotiations for a definitive return agreement between our countries,” Starmer said in a statement.
After the meeting, King Charles will also be expected to make a decision.
The palace has not yet released details of the king’s meeting with Al-Sudani. It remains to be seen whether Charles will host the distinguished guest at the royal residence.
