King Charles, who celebrated his first Christmas with the royal family since his cancer diagnosis, has been criticized for his estranged son Prince Harry’s cruel treatment. He released an emotional message after being heartbroken by the verdict.
The monarch, who is grandfather to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s three children, was apparently keen to spend a Christmas with his grandchildren, five-year-old Prince Archie and three-year-old Princess Lilybet.
Given the strained relationship between his youngest son, Prince Harry, Charles did not see Archie and Lilibet in person but he hoped that would change this year, especially after his health crisis.
However, Harry and his wife Meghan Markle plan to spend their ‘special’ holiday in Montecito as the royal family reunites in their annual tradition at Sandringham.
Following the update, King Charles’ office released a rare video of the monarch preparing his speech. In the video clip, as the crew prepares for the broadcast, Charles emotionally rehearses the words “Merry and Peaceful Christmas”.
“A special glimpse into the incredible talent, creativity and teamwork that brings the King’s Christmas broadcast to life,” reads the video’s caption.
A source previously revealed that there was “no better time to bring families together than the festive season”.
“King Charles has expressed a desire to meet his grandchildren,” the insider told The Mirror.
“There’s no feeling like being a grandparent and it’s a role that King Charles loves,” she continued. “It’s his hope that his family will be reunited and there’s no better way than to spend quality time with his grandchildren at Christmas. It’s going to be really special.”
