King Charles III issued the first statement after his brother Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson left the Royal Lodge in a surprise move after skipping a royal gathering on Christmas Day.
The royal family released a video clip in which the king was seen recalling his precious childhood memories for a TV project. The Coronation Girls.
The statement accompanying the video reads, “The king recalls a special childhood memory before his mother’s coronation in 1953…”
“‘Coronation Girls,’ a new documentary that aired in Canada this Christmas, follows a group of 50 Canadian women who attended the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II as young as 17.”
“In 2023, twelve of them returned to London, where they surprised the King with a special tea at Buckingham Palace.”
For the uninitiated, the newly released television show tells the story of 50 young Canadian women who traveled across the Atlantic in the summer of 1953 to witness the historic coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
The King graced the ladies with a cozy meeting at Buckingham Palace during his visit to London in 2023.
Notably, Buckingham Palace released a video message from King Charles as Sarah and Andrew left the Royal Lodge for a short trip to Windsor Castle.
The royal residence has long been a source of contention between the king and his brother. For the uninitiated, the King wants Andrew to move to Frogmore Cottage because the Royal Lodge is too difficult to maintain.
On the other hand, the Duke of York is adamant about accepting his cancer-stricken brother’s request.
