Princess Kate made an emotional return to the Royal Marsden Hospital, where she was treated last year, as part of her first official engagement of 2025.
The hospital, a world leader in cancer care, where the princess had been visiting quietly for months, but this time, she walked in through the front door with her head held high.
Welcoming staff including chief executive Dame Kelly Palmer and chairman Sir Douglas Flint, Kate expressed delight at her public return.
“It was great to walk in the front door after so many secret visits,” she shared with a smile.
Kate revealed that she will now act as joint patron of the hospital with her husband, Prince William.

Dressed in a chic dark brown tartan coat and burgundy polo collar and skirt, the princess charmed both patients and staff as she entered, greeting one woman warmly with a “Nice to meet you too.”
Chatting to another patient undergoing treatment, he showed his trademark empathy by asking, “When did you start treatment? Oh, today? How are you finding it?”
A patient complimented Kate on how well she was handling her family during her diagnosis, to which the princess humbly replied, “Oh, thanks… it’s just trying to do the best.” ”
During the visit, she spoke about the different effects of cancer treatment on families, saying, “Treatments are really different and varied; they have different effects on families.”
