KARACHI, QUETTA: Karachi, the financial hub of the country, received its first rain of winter with light drizzle on Saturday morning.

Amid the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast of partly cloudy weather in the evening, meteorologist Owais Haider has predicted more light drizzle in some parts of Karachi.

The Meteorological Department says that the wet spell may increase the intensity of the cold weather beginning today.

According to meteorological department data, there was drizzle in Shariah Faisal, Karsaz, Gulistan Johar, Federal B Area, MA Jinnah Road, Nizam Chowrangi, Guru Mandir, Dalmia, Shanti Nagar, Scheme 33, University Road, Gulshan E. Architect, Baldia Town, Orangi Town and Nath Nazimabad.

Meanwhile, there was light rain in Hub Chowki and Sarjani.

Light rains are occurring under the influence of PMD’s westerly winds after further cold weather is forecast from January 4 (today).

However, despite the rain, the metropolis’ air quality remained poor with an Air Quality Index (AQI) value of 257 – a rating of “extremely unhealthy” according to Swiss air quality monitor IQAir.

Ranked as the second most polluted city on Saturday, the concentration of toxic PM2.5 pollutants – particles small enough to enter the bloodstream when inhaled – was measured at 182 µg/m³, which That is 36.4 times more than the World Health Organization. (WHO) guidelines.

Apart from Karachi, Balochistan’s capital Quetta and its surrounding areas including Ziarat, Mastung, Lakpas and Kan Mehtarzai received the first snowfall of the season. Light rain followed by snowfall, which is expected to continue till January 5.

There is a possibility of snowfall in Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Zhob and Barkhan.

The Meteorological Department has said that the rain and snowfall will continue till January 5 (Sunday).

Kohlu and nearby areas also received rain.

Apart from this, it rained in Bannu of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while it snowed intermittently in Diamer, Babusar Top and Nanga Parbat of Gilgit.
