Garner admitted that she thought it was “crazy” to mourn a pet “with the world watching” but she wanted to share Birdie’s passing with her followers and she always posted about his life. What was the line posted?
“Birdie told us on Thursday that she wasn’t feeling herself (a famous foodie, Birdie never skips a meal),” she wrote.
“We were shocked to learn that she was not only very ill, but that she was at the end of her life.”
The news came shortly after Garner’s daughter Violet, who she shares with Affleck, returned from college for Thanksgiving break.
“The vet told us that dogs often hang around until their person comes home from college,” Garner explained.
“We’re sure Birdie did just that, so we can pet his fluffy ears together and thank him for being the best dog in the world.”
Birdie was trained as a therapy dog to visit Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles. Speaking about her pet’s gentle nature, Garner added: “Birdie loved to read.
“You knew how to give people what they needed… She lived the life of a dog and now she’s in the role she was born to play: angel girl. This creature like Birdie the Doggie. It is a gift to love and be loved.
Fans rushed to offer their condolences to Garner in the comments. “Don’t apologize for your grief. Our fur babies are our family,” one person wrote in response to the star’s caption.
“Thank you for sharing Birdie with us. Losing a pet is hard. Sorry for your loss,” another follower added in support. “Losing your best friend so hard,” said a third person. “Sending so much power your way.”
Garner welcomed Birdie after she split from Affleck in 2015 after ten years together before officially divorcing in 2018.
