Amir of Karachi Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Muneem Zafar has termed the recent decision of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah as an attack on the autonomy of universities, which also exposes the Sindh government’s double standards for universities in Karachi and other parts of Sindh. has been revealed.
Addressing a press conference held at Noor Haq, Jamaat-e-Islami head office, Karachi, Zafar announced the party’s full support for the black day announced by the Karachi University (KU) teachers as well as the Federation of Universities.
He said that a black day will be observed across Sindh against the removal of autonomy of universities. Comparing KU with other universities of Sindh, he said that the fees of KU and Sindh University are five times different.
Similarly, he said KU had 28 buses for 45,000 students while Jamia Sindh had 70 buses for 22,000 students. The JI leader also highlighted the problems of youth, traders and other sections of the society and said that all of them are sick of the ‘system’ run by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
Zafar alleged that the cry of the traders was justified because the PPP government was only focused on strengthening the system of looting. He further said that businessmen are seeking safe investment opportunities while Sindh is affected by corruption culture, extortion and other vices.
He shed light on the infrastructure situation in the mega city in detail. Citing the example of the Karimabad underpass, the Jamaat-e-Islami leader said that the project was inaugurated in 2023 at a cost of Rs 1.3 billion and was to be completed by 2025. The cost was incurred. It was increased to 3.8 billion rupees.
He also shed light on the water crisis in Karachi and condemned the Water Corporation for harboring the tanker mafia and proudly declaring huge profits from it. He also discussed the issue of medical college tests and demanded the authorities to increase the number of test centers in Karachi.
