Israel says it has vowed to respond to a Hezbollah attack on a military post after it hit targets in Lebanon on Monday evening, with both sides accusing the other of violating last week’s ceasefire. It was installed.
In a post on X, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said more details of its attacks would be released later.
Iran-backed group Hezbollah said it fired mortars at Israeli army positions in Israeli-occupied territory in response to earlier ceasefire violations.
Israel said there were no casualties in Hezbollah attacks on the Mount Dove area – a disputed area on the Israel-Lebanon border known internationally as Sheba Farms.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later described the Hezbollah attack as a “grave violation of the ceasefire” and vowed that Israel would respond “strongly”.
Monday’s violence is seen as the fragility of a recently agreed ceasefire, which aims to end the 13-month conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
Last week, the US and France said the deal would “stop the fighting in Lebanon, and protect Israel from the threat posed by Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations operating from Lebanon”.
Hezbollah has been given 60 days to end its armed presence in southern Lebanon while Israeli forces must withdraw from the area.
