Iran passed a strict hijab law. According to this law, women who do not wear hijab properly or oppose hijab should be punished. Lawmakers passed the law after several such criticisms by Iran’s President Masoud Pezhashkian. For a few days now, opposition has been seen in Iran regarding the hijab, which led to the passing of this strict law. Following the instructions of former President Ibrahim Raisi, the Iranian Judiciary drafted the ‘Hijab and Chastity’ bill document. It is not that there was no law in Iran before the word hijab, but this time the law was strictly enforced. Since 1979, women in Iran have been allowed to cover their heads in public. In 2022, the number of women who did not wear the hijab became significant after the death of Iranian Kurdish woman Mehsa Amini, a policewoman.
