Ipswich Town Manager Kieran McKenna hailed a special night for his club as they won a home match. Premier League for the first time in more than two decades, and suggested more victories were to come for the relegation-threatened club.
Goals from Liam Delp And Omri Hutchinson helped Ipswich overcome Chelsea on Monday and saw them record their first top-flight victory at Portman Road since beating Middlesbrough in April 2002.
The victory, just their third this season, saw Ipswich go up Leicester City They remain three points from safety in the standings, but McKenna believes better days are ahead.
“Halfway through the season and we’ve been competitive in most of our games. It’s just some small improvements we need to make to win more games. We’re a humble group for sure,” he said. said
“To do that against Chelsea was fantastic,” he added. For most of the supporters who have been here for 22 years, every moment here is historic for them.
“Winning a home game is another special little marker. But I think the time of year, the night game, the opponent makes it a special night and I want everyone to enjoy it a lot.”
The 38-year-old, who has led the club through successive promotions, said beating Chelsea sealed an incredible year.
“Everyone involved with the app could probably enjoy a glass of the sparkling stuff. [on Tuesday] Think back to the night and some of the games and moments we’ve had over the past two years. I don’t want to point too far back but I think six of the starting line-up today were in our League One team, so this group is on the journey.”
