India’s First Fast Track Immigration Trusted Traveler Program: Since June this year, over 19,000 Indian and foreign nationals Overseas Card of India (OCI) has registered for the opening of India. Fast Track Immigration Trusted Traveler Program (FTI-TTP).
Officials confirmed that while initially available only at the Delhi airport, the service has expanded to 31 international airports, including Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin and Ahmedabad.
Officials indicated that while the program mirrors the US global admissions program, it has been adapted to Indian needs. The move came after the US offered to include India in its Trusted Passenger Program. US Global Entry offers pre-check benefits and expedited US Customs and Border Protection screening for international travelers entering the US with valid documentation.
The Global Entry Program (GEP) by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) registered 1,491 people in August and 515 in September, officials familiar with the development told ET. They expect total enrollment to exceed 20,000 by the end of the year.
The program mandates biometric submission for all applicants, without which enrollment is not possible.
A senior government official told ET, “For anyone between 12 to 18 years, the email ID and mobile number of parents or guardians can be used for this purpose. FTI-TTP Registration And persons under 12 years of age or over 70 years of age are not eligible for the Trusted Traveler Program. The registration process usually takes a month with verification by the field agencies.”
The program has attracted frequent global travelers, OCI cardholders, high net worth individuals, chief executive officers and businessmen. Officials reported that e-gates have achieved 60-65 percent faster immigration clearance for passengers.
According to the program guidelines: “Eligible persons can apply online. Fast track immigration facility. Those with approved applications are invited to submit their biometrics (fingerprint and facial image) at international airports in India or regional registration offices for foreigners.”
Registration is valid for five years or till expiry of passport, whichever is earlier.
Another official explained, “FTI-TTP aims to facilitate international movement with fast, smooth, secure immigration clearance. In the initial phase, it will be free-of-charge for Indian nationals and OCI card holders. has been initiated.”
