IndiGo maintained its position as the market leader with a 63.6 per cent share of air traffic, followed by Air India (24.4 per cent), Akasa Air (4.7 per cent) and SpiceJet (3.1 per cent). Alliance Air’s market share was flat at 0.7 percent during the month.
According to a DGCA report, “The number of passengers carried by domestic airlines during January to November 2024 was 1,464.02 lakh as against 1,382.34 lakh during the same period last year, thus 5.91 percent YoY and 11.90 A month-on-month growth of per cent was recorded,” according to the DGCA report.
Domestic air passenger traffic was 142.52 lakh in November as against 127.36 lakh in the same period a year ago. The number of passengers taking to Indian skies in November was higher than the corresponding figure of 1.36 crore in October.
However, the on-time performance (OTP) of scheduled domestic airlines in Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai declined during November and passengers faced long delays.
IndiGo’s OTP stood at 74.5 percent while Akasa Air and SpiceJet reached 66.4 percent and 62.5 percent respectively. Air India and Alliance Air’s OTP was 58.8 per cent and 58.9 per cent respectively, the data showed.
The figures also show that 2,24,904 passengers faced delays in November. Airlines have paid around Rs 2.9 crore to facilitate the stranded passengers. During November scheduled domestic airlines received 624 passenger related complaints.
A total of 3,539 passengers were denied boarding in November and airlines spent Rs 2.84 crore to compensate them and provide facilities. The data also shows that 27,577 passengers were affected by the cancellation of flights for which the airlines spent Rs 36.79 lakh as compensation and facilities.
