India right-arm off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin bid farewell to international cricket after the third Test against Australia ended in a draw on Wednesday.
Speaking to the media, Ashwin said: “This will be my last day as an Indian cricketer in all formats at the international level”.
The 38-year-old retired with 537 wickets in 106 Tests, the second highest by an Indian bowler after Anil Kumble’s 619.
Ashwin was not selected for the series opener in Perth but returned to the team for the second day-night Test in Adelaide, where he took one wicket.
This match will prove to be his last Test after being dropped from the team for Brisbane.
Speaking to the media, he said: “I think I have a bit of punch left in me as a cricketer, but I want to […] Show it in club level cricket”.
“I had a lot of fun. I must say I made a lot of memories with Rohit [Sharma] And several of my other teammates,” he said with the Indian captain on his side.
Ashwin has also played 116 ODIs and 65 T20 Internationals, taking 765 wickets across all formats.
A proven match-winner on India’s turning tracks, he also became a decent Test all-rounder with six centuries in the format.
