“Work on the bullet train corridor in Maharashtra has picked up speed since the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government assumed power. The entire land acquisition has been completed and more than 320 km of physical infrastructure is ready,” the official said. said

On future high-speed corridors, the official told ET that insights from the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed ​​Rail (MAHSR) project would be valuable. “India is now able to single-handedly carry this project in more corridors. We should have our own trains in future corridors as well,” he said.
“India wants to be able to build bullet trains that can touch 280 kmph (km/h) and an average operational speed of 250 kmph,” another official said.
Regarding India’s domestic bullet train development strategy, another official explained, “The bogies (suspension system) will continue to improve. But the powertrain and body will need a lot of development. They will be ready in about three years. It will take years.”
In response to questions about the future of Shinkansen suppliers, another official clarified, “We do not want to stop Japanese cooperation. Negotiations are ongoing regarding the supply deal for the modern trains that will run on the MAHSR corridor.”

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) manifesto included plans to launch feasibility studies for bullet train corridors in northern, southern and eastern India.
Civil work of MAHSR corridor is 50% complete. The Railway Board has commissioned Integral Coach Factory (ICF) to manufacture bullet trains running at a speed of 280 kmph. BEML has tied up with the Railway Production Unit to manufacture these trains at a cost of Rs 866.87 crore.
BEML has fixed the price per coach at Rs 27.86 crore. The contract price includes design costs, development costs, non-recurring charges, and costs for jigs, fixtures, tooling and testing facilities.
