Ahead of the Maha Kumbh festival, which is expected to attract around 40 crore people, the Indian Railways is gearing up to handle the huge influx of pilgrims with extensive planning and infrastructure upgrades.

Dilip Kumar, Executive Director, Information and Publicity, Railway Board, said that the Railways will run around 13,000 trains during the Kumbh Mela to accommodate the large number of visitors.

Kumar said, “Railways is working with the slogan ‘Deviya Kumbh, Bhavya Kumbh, Digital Maha Kumbh’. Around 40 crore people are expected to reach… We have planned to run 13,000 trains during the Kumbh. Kumar said.

The elaborate train operations are designed to ensure smooth transportation with a focus on convenience and safety for the millions of devotees attending the religious gathering.

In preparation for the event, railway stations located near important Kumbh Mela locations are witnessing significant improvement in passenger amenities.

“Passenger facilities at all prominent stations near Kumbh have been enhanced manifold… Passenger facilities have been enhanced,” Kumar explained, assuring the public that the railways is doing everything possible to provide better services. taking action

Additionally, Railway Police Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) will be deployed in large numbers to ensure safety and security of passengers.

One of the major upgrades is the expansion of ticketing services, including an emphasis on digital ticketing to ease travel. “The ticketing facility has also been enhanced… Digital ticketing is being promoted,” Kumar said.

Additionally, the railway authorities will open ticket counters in the Kumbh Mela area itself, ensuring that passengers have easy access to tickets for their journey.

In another major development, Dilip Kumar announced the creation of a new rail division for Jammu. Indian Railways has notified Jammu as a new rail division, marking an important step in strengthening the railway network in Jammu and Kashmir.

The division will initially cover 721 km from Jammu including the Srinagar-Budgam section. “Jammu has been notified as a new rail division by the Indian Railways. It covers 721 km initially. It will mainly include the Jammu to Srinagar-Budgam railway section,” Kumar said. explained.

The establishment of this new rail division is part of Indian Railways’ broader strategy to enhance connectivity in the Jammu and Kashmir region, an area that has long been a priority for infrastructure development.

Kumar added, “Areas in and around Jammu and Kashmir are a priority… Indian Railways is trying to expand the railway network in all parts of the country to strengthen it and train trains properly. are equipped,” Kumar added.

Indian Railways is also stepping up its efforts to modernize the network. Over the past decade, the pace of construction of railway infrastructure has accelerated significantly. Kumar noted that this includes completion of new rail lines and expansion of existing routes.

A particularly anticipated development is the soon-to-commence operation from Jammu to Srinagar. “Soon, operations will begin from Jammu to Srinagar,” Kumar said, adding that the new route would highlight connectivity in the region.

Jammu Rail Division was earlier a part of Ferozepur Division, but Indian Railways has decided to create a separate division for Jammu to ensure better management and rapid development of the region’s railway infrastructure.

“Earlier this area was under Ferozepur division… Indian Railways has decided to remove the northern part from Ferozepur division and establish it as a new rail division,” Kumar said.
