A group of Indians vandalized a restaurant in Sheffield, England and harassed its staff for serving beef on the menu, it emerged on Sunday.
Called by locals as a disturbing act of religious intolerance, the incident has raised concerns about communal harmony in the city.
Although the altercation took place a few months ago, it gained attention recently after a video went viral on social media, drawing widespread condemnation.
Rahimullah Khan, the owner of the restaurant, gave the details of the incident in an interview Geo NewsThrowing light on the upcoming events.
“The Indian nationals arrived at the restaurant drunk,” Khan explained. “After the meal, they made a scene at the counter, accusing us of mixing lamb and beef.”
“The management told them that beef is not even on our menu,” he added.
Khan further revealed that the drunken men aggravated the situation by assaulting a staff member and causing considerable damage to the glass and other property of the restaurant.
The local police intervened and arrested the people involved in the riot. The owner of the restaurant has confirmed that the matter is under investigation.
The incident has sparked concern in the Sheffield community, with residents and community leaders calling it a dangerous example of religious intolerance.
