Actor Khaqan Shahnawaz recently sparked outrage by suggesting that he play the role of Indian actress Kareena Kapoor’s son in a play because of his age. This comment is being severely criticized by the fans of the Bollywood star.
During an appearance on a talk show with Tabish Hashmi on 14 December, Shahnawaz responded to an audience member who expressed his desire to see him work with Kapoor. Shahnawaz replied that he could play his son from then on. Kareena was ‘quite old’.
Was it justified? Absolutely not. Was it random? Too much.
What prompted him to say this? We may never know!
A smile and a nod would have been a better approach. Instead, his comment was heavily criticized by Kapoor’s loyal fans in both Pakistan and India, many of whom called his statement “ageist”. Others pointed out that Shahnawaz’s fame paled in comparison to Kapoor’s massive celebrity status.
One user remarked, “Bhai thinks he made a funny joke, you’re not there for him,” while another Pakistani The fan admitted that he had no idea who Shahnawaz was. Another added that Shahnawaz was “nobody here in Pakistan”, while Kapoor is a legend in Bollywood – harsh but completely wrong. No.
Some even speculated that Shahnawaz was simply trying to ride on Kapoor’s coattails to gain attention, with one person claiming that he took his name only to cash in on his fame, when that the other suggested that he would eventually gain fame because of it, pointing out that everyone who spoke About getting old will eventually grow old itself.
Another social media user called Shahnawaz “publicity-hungry” and noted that he “chose Bollywood’s queen” for the same reason. However, we must clarify that it was an audience member who first suggested the idea of Shahnawaz working with Kapoor. His unusual reaction, though, was to him.
One user defended Kapoor, asserting that “Age is just a number and Kareena proves it beautifully.”
“Before making such remarks the so-called actor should know that Kareena is the only female actress in entire Bollywood who has worked as a lead actress throughout her career… Meanwhile, on our Insta and YouTube The influencer is talking about us [meanwhile, our Instagram and YouTube influencers are commenting on her]Another user reminded Shahnawaz that “everyone on this earth is going to get old” and urged him to “stop making such comments.”
A Pakistani fan mentioned that Pakistanis are also criticizing Shahnawaz, pointing out his childish behavior and lack of acting skills.
A few, on the other hand, sided with Shahnawaz, agreeing with the idea that Kapoor is indeed old—though it’s unclear what exactly they agreed with.
What is certain is that the entire episode rallied social media users from both Pakistan and India, with many Pakistani commentators giving Shahnawaz a “reality check”.
Shahnawaz’s comment was clearly rooted in ageism. A quick Google search reveals that Kapoor is 44 years old, while Shahnawaz is 27 years old. That means, according to their logic, if he was really her son, she would have to be an underage mother.
If they ever worked as mother and son, it could be a film about teenage pregnancy — but we highly doubt Kapoor would consider working with Shahnawaz anytime soon.
