- The ICC meeting has been scheduled for December 7 in Dubai.
- The PCB insists that the hybrid model is not suitable for the Champions Trophy.
- A “partnership formula” is under consideration to end the deadlock.
A crucial meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC), scheduled for today (Wednesday) to discuss the hosting of the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, was postponed before it began as The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has rejected the formula proposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), sources said. Geo News.
Sources revealed that the meeting was adjourned due to India not responding to Pakistan’s proposed solution to the issue. Now this meeting will be held on December 7.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Dubai this morning with high hopes for the important meeting, during which the future of the tournament to be held in Pakistan in February-March 2025 was discussed.
Sources further said that the BCCI has also rejected the PCB’s proposals, which could not resolve the impasse.
Thereafter, PCB sources gave a clear reply to the ICC: the meeting should be held only when a final decision is necessary, and India’s position should be clarified first.
It may be mentioned here that the upcoming Champions Trophy is stalled after the BCCI refused to send its team to Pakistan, while the PCB is sticking to its stand against the hybrid model for the eight-team tournament.
However, in the latest turn of events, a new model, called the “partnership formula”, is being considered to end the deadlock between the PCB and the BCCI.
According to the new formula, Pakistan will also not play its matches in India during ICC events for the next three years. Dubai is most likely to be the neutral venue for both teams as per the expected new deal.
India will host three ICC events during this period, including the Women’s World Cup 2025, co-hosting the T20 World Cup 2026 with Sri Lanka and the Champions Trophy 2027.
The details further stated that cricket’s apex body has advised the BCCI to accept the said model, to avoid legal action by Pakistan and try to resolve the issue without voting. .
If the proposed formula is mutually agreed upon, a board meeting may not be required and cricket’s premier body will discuss developments with board members.
