Those who regularly travel through the Lyari Expressway (LEW) in Karachi know that the toll rates have been hiked manifold in a few months. About six months ago, the toll was increased from Rs 30 to Rs 50, but no one, including public representatives and political leaders, raised their voice. This prompted the authorities concerned to increase the rates by another Rs 60.
It should be noted that LEW is a short track of about 16 km. Thus, the increase appears highly unfair. Moreover, due to lack of fences or sidewalls at several places, the environment around the track has become extremely dangerous, which needs immediate attention.
