PESHAWAR: At least five people were killed and six injured in an exchange of fire between two groups over old enmity in Tahkal Tehsil of Peshawar, police said on Thursday.
Addressing. Geo NewsSP Warsak Mukhtar Khan said that the firing started when a group of people returning from a wedding ceremony in Tehkal area encountered their rivals. The exchange of fire escalated resulting in casualties.
According to SP Khan, five people lost their lives while six were injured during the clash.
Police have initiated legal action and are further investigating the incident.
CCPO Qasim Shah said that all the persons killed and injured in the firing incident belonged to the same group.
He revealed that the injured included Bilal Khalil, head of a local social organization, who was mainly targeted by the attackers.
The CCPO further said that the involved groups had an ongoing dispute over a commercial plaza, which had led to tension between them.
He added that in September 2024, an exchange of fire between the same factions resulted in one death.
