In a tragic incident, an Indian woman sold her newborn baby to pay off her husband’s debt. Economic Times On Wednesday, it led to his arrest and those of others involved.
A 40-year-old woman sold her 30-day-old baby for INR 150,000. This incident took place in Ramnagar district of Karnataka state of India.
However, the police later rescued the child and placed him in a welfare home in Mandya after arresting the mother.
The woman’s husband filed a missing report on December 7, two days after the child went missing, as he suspected that his wife was involved in the disappearance of their infant son.
The couple has five children and is struggling with mounting debts.
“I owe more than Rs 300,000, and my wife suggested to me a few days ago that we can sell our newborn baby to a childless couple to pay off our debt. But I flatly refused, And said he should never think so.” The father told the police.
The father said that after returning home on December 5, he found his son missing.
“When I inquired, my wife told me that he had some health problems and she referred him to a relative to see a doctor. Believing her, I had dinner and went to sleep. The next morning, I went to work and came back at night. There was no sign of my son, and my wife repeated what she said earlier.
“But this time, I got suspicious and asked me to tell him the number of the doctor or relative with whom my son was. But he refused, and we attacked each other over the matter. I put my head down. but wounded,” said. The husband
The man then went to the police and filed a complaint, after which the mother was interrogated.
An investigating officer said, “He tried to mislead us by saying that the infant was with his relative. When further questioned, he gave the baby to a single woman in Bengaluru for Rs 150,000. Admitted to selling.”
The police later recovered the infant and arrested the mother, two other people who sold the baby and the woman who bought the baby.
