Dera Ghazi Khan: Dera Ghazi Khan police on Wednesday morning foiled a terrorist attack on an inter-provincial check post adjacent to KPK in a half-hour exchange of fire with sophisticated weapons.
The Lakhani check post of the Dera Ghazi Khan police, located about 145 km from here on the KP border in the north, was targeted by terrorists with rockets and grenades. The number of terrorists is being said to be 25 to 30 by the police authorities.
However, the police force retaliated and effectively thwarted the attack and the assailants were forced to flee the scene under cover of darkness.
The PRO of RPO Dera Ghazi Khan said that the terrorists were first spotted with thermal image cameras which led to a quick response by the police.
However, no casualty was reported as a result of the operation with the Quick Response Force and Elite Force led by Regional Police Chief Captain (retd) Sajjad Hasan Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan District Police Chief Syed Ali.
Inspector General Punjab Police Dr. Usman Anwar announced cash rewards and certificates of appreciation for all personnel who participated in repelling the attack.
Earlier, Jhangi Police Check Post (Hazrat Umar Farooq Check Post) has been facing constant terrorist attacks. On 14 December 2023, Head Constable Mazhar Iqbal Khan was martyred while Constable Muhammad Ramzan was hit by bullets and the second attack was successfully thwarted by the police on 23 January 2024.
The police also installed a drone camera on November 13 to identify the terrorists. The attackers targeted the surveillance drones but were pushed back by the timely and fierce resistance of the police.
