SYDNEY: A driver felt something on his foot while cruising along a highway in eastern Australia and discovered a deadly tiger snake “biting his leg”, police said on Sunday.

Police in Victoria state said officers found her barefoot and in shock after coming across the reptile on the side of the Monash Freeway near Melbourne on Friday morning.

“The woman explained that she was traveling at 80 km/h on the freeway when she noticed something on foot and looked down to see a deadly tiger snake slithering down her leg,” police said in a statement. Police said in a statement.

“Remarkably, she was able to get out of her car and run through traffic before getting out of her car and jumping to safety.”

Tiger snakes, named for their colorful stripes, are among the most venomous snakes in the world, according to the state wildlife department.

Thick-bodied and about a meter (three feet) long, they respond to threats by lifting themselves off the ground and flattening their head and neck, it says.

The woman was evaluated by medics to make sure she had not been bitten, and a snake catcher removed a “massive” snake from the vehicle, police said.
