Football and rugby clubs have turned to special heated domes to ensure they can continue playing in the winter.
Northampton Saints and Cambridge United have hired the kit, which covers the entire pitch, heated by LPG gas to prevent freezing. is
Cambridge head groundsman Ian Darler estimates the two-day use will cost around £2,000 but believes it is worth it.
He said: “When you put the cost of losing a game against that, the cost of the food alone will be greater than what you’ll throw away.”
