Rupert Grunt, known to the world as Ron Weasley. Harry Potter The series, has been ordered to pay huge sums after losing a legal dispute with HM Revenue & Customs, involving tax returns.
Back in 2019, Grunt was asked to repay the money after HMRC launched an investigation into one of his tax returns.
The actor’s lawyer argued that the amount received by the 36-year-old actor was immediately taxed as a capital asset. However, customs believed that it should have been paid as revenue at a higher value.
According to the latest proceedings of the legal dispute, The BBC reported that Rupert has been fined £1.8 million after Tax Tribunal judge Harriet Morgan rejected his claims.
In 2011-2012, Grunt, 36, received £4.5 million from a company in what is believed to be residual income and bonuses from the Harry Potter films.
According to Star, instead of paying the top rate of 52% as income tax and national insurance, he can pay capital gains tax of 10% on the amount.
All their appeals were thrown out in the latest legal wrangle as Judge Morgan said the cash was ‘derived for its full value from Mr Grunt’s activities’ and not as income.
