Dozens of people have been killed after clashes during a football match in Guinea’s second-largest city, N’zérékoré, local media reported.
Prime Minister Mamadou Ory Bah said Sunday’s stampede at the ceremony had left several victims and appealed for calm.
A doctor, who did not want to be named, told the AFP news agency that several bodies were “piled up” at the local hospital and the morgue was full.
Local media said police fired tear gas as fans of the visiting team threw rocks onto the pitch in anger at the referee.
The death toll has not yet been officially reported.
“It all started with a controversial decision by the referee. Then the fans stormed the pitch,” an eyewitness told AFP.
Videos and photos on social media showed chaotic scenes outside the stadium, with a large crowd climbing walls. is trying to and there are several bodies on the ground.

Prime Minister Bah said in a statement that regional authorities were working for a “smooth recovery”, adding that hospitals were helping the injured.
Local news website MediaGuinee reported that thousands of spectators were present when the match between Guinean teams N’zérékoré and Labé crashed.
It said Sunday’s match was part of a tournament in honor of President Mamadi Domboya, who seized power in a coup in September 2021.
The worst massacre in Guinea’s history also took place in a stadium.
In 2009, 156 people were killed when soldiers opened fire on an opposition rally at a stadium in the capital, Conakry.
Many were shot, stabbed, beaten or crushed in the stampede as security forces fired tear gas and charged into the stadium. Hundreds of women were also raped.
Former military ruler Moses Dedis Camara was recently convicted. 20 years in prison for crimes against humanity in connection with the massacre.
