The author of Greg Wallace’s 2012 biography of the past claims he sexually harassed her.
Shannon Kyle told BBC Newsnight that the Masterchef presenter answered the door wearing only a towel, which he later dropped, made “rebellious” and “sickening” sexual suggestions, and inappropriately made her feel uncomfortable. Touched methodically.
Kyle, then 35, was writing Wallace’s memoir Life on a Plate.
Lawyers representing Wallace said: “Our client denies that he engaged in any such behaviour, and he specifically denies any sexual misconduct with Ms Kyle.”
This story includes graphic details of alleged sexual harassment.
Kyle claimed that Wallace shared revealing details of his sex life between May and August 2012 while working on the book.
The now 47-year-old also alleges Wallace inappropriately touched her thigh while she sat in the passenger seat of his sports car, and felt her bottom after appearing at the Good Food Show in Birmingham.
Kyle said he chose to speak out to highlight what he described as Wallace’s “predatory” behavior.
Newsnight brought the fresh allegations to Wallace’s representatives on Tuesday.
The presenter’s lawyers have strongly denied that he engaged in sexually harassing behaviour.
Last week, Benejay UK, the production company behind the BBC show, announced that Wallace “will be stepping down from her role on MasterChef” following complaints from people over the historic allegations of misconduct.
Followed it. A BBC News investigation that heard from 13 peopleFive different programs, spanning a range of ages, made allegations of inappropriate sexual comments.
After that, other women have also come forward. With more claims against the TV host.
Benejay UK has announced an “urgent, external review for a full and impartial investigation” and said Wallace is “committed to co-operating fully throughout the process”.
‘Just go and get dressed’
When starting work with Wallace on the book, Kyle said: “The first interview we did was very straightforward, and then we agreed to meet whenever he became available.”
Kyle, who has written several books, alleges that in the “second or third interview,” which took place around 8 a.m. because Wallace was “very busy filming” at his own restaurant, he ” started talking about his love life”. .
“He was dating a lot of different women. And he started telling me about the dates, who the women were, where he met them. And then in very graphic detail, they had sex together. “What,” said Kyle.
“He talked about being spanked a lot. He also talked about one of his girlfriends on all fours in front of a mirror. He talked in incredibly sexual detail, which was shocking at the time. because it was completely unnecessary to the book.”
On one occasion, she said, a meeting was arranged at Wallace’s flat, and she opened the door “completely naked, except for a towel around her waist”.
Wallace, she claims, said he had just returned from the gym and had showered and said it would be fine for him to go into the living room.
Kyle said he asked Wallace: “Look, can you go get dressed?”
She said as she sat on the sofa waiting for him. Wallace then returned to the towel and, she claims, had her pants tucked behind the pillow she was next to.
“Then I kind of looked up and then he dropped the towel,” she said.
Newsnight asked if the towel drop could have been an accident, to which Ms Kyle said “absolutely not”.
“I felt quite vulnerable because I’m alone in a flat with a man. He’s naked,” she said.
Kyle, then a single parent, signed a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) before starting the project.
“The author understands that Wallace has a high public profile and that his obligations of loyalty and confidentiality are therefore of particular importance to him,” the NDA said.
“I was worried about losing my job,” she said, “because I had given up everything for this job. So I thought to myself … I’m just going to try and navigate it. will, [I’ll] Just try and move on,” he said. “It was really revolting.”
At another meeting for the book, Kyle said that, during a restaurant meal, the TV presenter made other sexual comments, including: “If you won’t let me sleep with you, will you Will you lick me? [anus]?”
Another comment she made, while she was eating dessert, included: “What would you think if I put some of the Eton Mess you’re eating on my own, then?”
Kyle said it was “sickening… obscene. It was, you know, obviously designed to cause some sort of discomfort.”
On another occasion when they were wrapping up an interview in her flat, saying goodbye, she said, Wallace launched into a “really big hug”.
“His face was so close to mine…I was completely frozen.”
She alleged that Wallace spoke into her ear, saying: “Just give me a little kiss. Just a little.”
Kyle said he then “paused” and “he either let go or I pushed him away a little bit. And, and then I wanted to run really fast.”
She said she left “in tears.”
‘It’s been a long time coming’
The incident at the flat was not the only time Kyle said she experienced inappropriate behavior and harassment from Wallace.
On a separate occasion, she claims he inappropriately touched her on the thigh and around the knee while she was changing gears when she was picked up in his sports car on the way to an interview.
Kyle said the action turned him off and told him to stop.
She claims that after an interview at a restaurant, while driving home, Wallace “started trying to touch my knee and thigh again”.
He said it was at this point “I started to lose my temper because I’d really had enough”.
After threatening to kill Wallace while in the car, he said he stopped and “he didn’t try again”.
But according to Kyle, the alleged harassment and inappropriate touching continued at a later date.
In one of the book’s final interviews, he traveled to Birmingham where Wallace was scheduled to appear on the Good Food Show.
After the ceremony, she said Wallace touched her bottom inappropriately in the hotel car park.
When allegations about Wallace’s inappropriate comments and behavior surfaced last week, Kyle said it felt like “a long time coming.”
She described his behavior as “predatory” and said: “Sometimes you have to speak up for what’s right.”
The ghostwriter claims that Wallace’s alleged actions have been downplayed by some as “cheesy barrow boy humor” but she describes it as “rebellious rudeness”.
The BBC has pulled its MasterChef Christmas. Special since allegations about Wallace’s behavior surfaced last Thursday.
on wednesday, said Wallace’s co-host John Torode He found the recent allegations “really disturbing”.
A BBC spokesman thanked those who “had the courage to speak out” about the allegations about Wallace. He said production company Banjay UK had launched a review because they had a contract with Wallace.
“He is not employed by the BBC. When issues were raised with the BBC we took action, referring the issues to the production company concerned and directly challenging his behavior as widely reported. has gone
The spokesman said he hoped the independent investigation would be carried out “rigorously and as quickly as possible”.
